The following Strategic Positions have guided the development of the New World of Work Boot Camp.

Many organizations have chosen to downsize their anticipatory sensing capability in favor of a concentration on operational efficiency.

  • Naming uncertainty, and confronting its implications, are powerful tools that will help organizations remain agile in the face of change.
  • We are entering an era of new economic models that will disrupt many assumptions about how businesses function.
  • Organizations need techniques and practices that will help them navigate toward the future and better adapt to the present.
  • It is imperative that organizations train their workers and their leaders to understand, and work in, an uncertain environment

Here is a sample of the strategic Issues that will be explored during the boot camp:

  • Will globalization continue unabated or retreat?
  • Will analytics produce useful insights or new ways to control and burden the workforce?
  • How will decisions be made?
  • How will business models in emerging markets affect the way those in developed countries perceive their work, and how will these new models shape worker expectations?
  • How will new work relationships shape expectations and realities in the work environment?
  • What changes may reshape education and challenge assumptions about the relationship between industry and education, and the relationship between workers and their qualifications?
  • What technologies will emerge to disrupt business models, eliminate jobs or create new opportunities? Where will these technologies come from? How will they infiltrate the organization?
  • How will success be measured in a future where sustainability becomes a core value?
  • What happens to organizations if consumer trust wanes or shifts?
  • What approaches to innovation will dominate?
  • Will organizations have the means to transfer knowledge effectively between workers of different generations in order to ensure business continuity?
  • How will hierarchical management systems integrated with the networked approach to work execution?
  • Will organizations successfully recognize errors in algorithms that result in  the misinterpretation of data, or will they complacently trust ever more complex and opaque software to create their decision making context?
  • Will the Internet amplify the voice of citizen regulators loud enough to overwhelm the response of government and ultimately force individuals and businesses to question the relevance of many government regulations?
  • What happens if the public becomes increasingly skeptical of government, business or both?

The NWoW Boot Camp team, and its clients, will continually explore and document the forces and uncertainties that will affect business outcomes. This list will be updated regularly so that the NWoW Boot Camp remains fresh and relevant.
